he calls me schoonie

Who's That Girl has posted the next challenge: The Name Game. We want to see pages about your nickname, your first name, your last name... you get the deal.

Here is my page about the nickname my hubby calls me—Schoonie.

And with my name being Diana, I bet you are wondering how on earth he came up with the name Schoonie. So here's the story:

In 2001, hubby and I both worked for Infinity Radio in Rochester. We were supposed to walk in the St. Patrick's Day parade as part of the station group, but it was snowing so hard we ditched it.

We started driving east of the city and ended up more than an hour away in a town called Canandaigua. It is a beautiful, lakeside town that is part of the Fingerlakes. We stopped to eat lunch at a diner called Schooners. (See the connection now?)

Back when we were dating, my husband thought it was cute to walk up to me when we'd pass in the halls of the radio station and whisper, "So what's your name?" As we were leaving the diner after lunch and heading to the car, he leaned over and said, "So, what's your name." Being cheeky, I replied, "Schoonie," because of the name of the diner.

Now, nearly a decade later, I am still Schoonie. Daily texts and notes hubby leaves me all say Schoonie. He rarely, if ever, calls me Diana.

And that is my Schoonie story. By the way, I call him Bubba P., but that is a story for another day!

Supplies: Patterned paper (Webster Pages), Flowers (Prima), Pins (Maya Road), Pearls (Prima), Chipboard Letters (Thickers)

Link up your name page to our Flickr gallery for Who's That Girl. There is a great prize up for grabs, so check out all of the details here.

i got sassy!

Moxie Fab is one of my favorite blogs. Cath is always ready to challenge her readers, and she really helps me think outside of the scrappy box. I love her Tuesday Triggers and the prompts she encourages us to try.

OK, now that I am done gushing, here is my card for her Anne Taintor challenge. She is the woman who made famous the 1950s housewife with a habit for making us blush. I just love it!!

Know how we're always saying we should keep everything we find because, well, you never know? This image is from a business reply card for a subscription to Reminisce magazine. I'd never heard of the magazine before, but it must be affiliated with one of the magazines I do get. Maybe Taste of Home—I love my cooking magazines!!

So here is a testament to save it all if it looks like it may come in handy some day. This image worked out perfectly for this challenge.

If you have attitude, give this challenge a whirl. It was quite fun to make this card, and even more fun over the past week or so thinking up the saying to put on it.

Supplies: Patterned paper (Basic Grey-Origins), Ribbon (Jillibean Soup), Flowers (Sassafras Lass)

And of course, Sketchy Thursdays is going strong. You have a chance to win a fabulous Kenner Road kit just by playing along!

And, if you are a Scrapfreak, (hee hee, who isn't) they have an online crop today. I plan on stopping by and hope to see you over there. {SCRAPFREAK 1.29 ONLINE CROP}

buzz lightyear to the rescue!!!

My son LOVES Buzz Lightyear. LOVES him!!! He had to have the bigger-sized Buzz for Christmas this year (and he decided that with only a week left to shop). Every big box he saw had to have Buzz in it.

And there was a funny moment Christmas Eve when his Spiderman scooter from Aunt Joyce was not Buzz... a priceless moment seeing him in shock that the box he had been shaking all evening was not Buzz. Because in his mind, the bigger Buzz Lightyear had to be the size of a scooter (LOL).

I was one of the lucky random holiday giveaway winners from Jillibean Soup, and wow... I got lots of goodies! Which I took a picture of and put somewhere for safe keeping and have since stashed away where I can't find it. I will find it though and share it as I make more pages. (THANKS JILLIBEAN SOUP!!!)

And how great are these letters from Jillibean once I sprayed them with Maya Mist?! I love how well the mist covered them.

Of course, with it being Thursday and all, it is time to share the next Sketchy Thursdays sketch. Time to get your creative on! There is a Seven Gables kit from Kenner Road on the line!!! One lucky winner with get the kit. And we choose randomly, so anyone can win as long as they enter!! See ya over there!

i've gotta do something!

I've been busy, I promise!!! I feel badly that I haven't posted since the weekend, so I have to pop in with a Wordless Wednesday (yeah right... I plan on talking) to let ya know what I've been up to.

I have been creating for Sketchy Thursdays and Who's That Girl, and of course I have to wait to share them. (Pssstt... last few days to get in on the current challenges for these sites!!)

When I wasn't working on scrappy business, I've been knitting again. Betcha didn't know I knit, did ya?! Well, a friend at work got me into it, and in 2008 I made 7 scarves as gifts for family and friends for the holidays.

That was my initial experience with knitting and it burned me right out. This weekend was the first time I have picked up these knitting needles since Dec. 2008. It was super easy, like I never stopped!

I'm making myself one of those cowl neck scarves and will put 2 big ol' wooden buttons on the edge of it. I can't wait... hope I get it finished before it's too warm to wear it!!

Have a nice Wednesday. I'll see you tomorrow for Sketchy Thursdays!

10 of my favorite things

I was lucky enough to have some free time this weekend to scrap. Because dear hubby was working his new shift, I was able to play with the Design Dollies. The triple threat this week is to use turquoise, lime green and white, make a page about your favorite things, and use Kristy's sketch (which can be seen here).

I used my Studio Calico Whodunit January kit for this page. How cool that their new papers and the Origins line from Basic Grey which are in the kit would match so well with the Dollies challenge. And... I also found a not-so-bad picture of myself where I was wearing green just to make it all the more matchy-matchy.

I included only 10 favorite things so that this page also is my Guest DT Challenge for Scrapfreak this month. Crossing my fingers... I would love to be GDT over there, I love those peeps and the gallery is always full of wonderful inspiration.

Thanks for dropping in!! I hope you are having a great weekend. It is supposed to be warmer here today, but without the sun shining, the predicted high-40s still feels pretty darn cold to me. Stay warm, peeps!!

so excited to share these with you!

Have you ever had the urge to create? I'm sure if you read my blog, the answer to that is a resounding, "YES!" from many of you. The past few nights I have been on a kick making items for my store.

Many of you know that I love to make these buttons, and now they are getting better! I've added more layers and embellishments—they are just so fun to make as well as to use.

I emptied out my store and all of the clutter from Christmas and the cards that no one seemed to want, and I have started over. I am focusing on handmade embellishments, specializing in the cardboard buttons, made from 100% found and recycled materials. All papers used to stamp on are premium, 100% recycled cardstock. Very durable and heavy weight.

There are also a few Valentine's Day goodies. All are priced just right, with no extra shipping for most of the second, third, fourth... items.

This last picture is from the first kit I have made to post. All papers are from the Artsy Urban line from GCD Studios. Lots of coordinating fabulousness in this kit! Scoop it up!!

Thanks again to everyone who has visited and purchased from my store! I have it under good authority from one girl (you know who you are, Trixie!!) that she'll take these buttons any which way she can! So you better run fast before she gets there!

Click on each image to go to that item. My whole store can be viewed HERE. Thanks for looking!!

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

queen for the day!

It's Queen Karissa, my BFF's eldest little girl! And these papers from Nikki Sivils' U R My Favorite line were perfect for showing off what a sweetie Karissa is! I mean, come on, how cute are the little frogs, crowns and hearts?!

I am so happy to announce that Nikki Sivils is this week's sponsor at Sketchy Thursdays. Ask my husband, I was jumping for joy with each e-mail that Nikki and I exchanged getting ready for this week's challenge. I just love how fun and colorful her papers and embellishments are, and I was overjoyed to get to work with them.

If you would like a chance to work with the U R My Favorite line from Nikki Sivils, all you have to do is play along with this week's Sketchy Thursdays sketch challenge for a chance to win.

Link up your entry that coordinates with this sketch in the Mr. Linky area at Sketchy Thursdays in the left sidebar before 10 p.m. (EST) on Wed., 1/27. One lucky random winner is going home with a generous sampling of the papers and embellishments from the U R My Favorite product line. YEAH!! So, let's see those entries!

the music of your life

For my last GDT page for the All About Me blog, the challenge this week is This is the Soundtrack of My Life. Sounds like a good one, doesn't it?! Music is a powerful means of communication and has the power to cause emotions to well up within us. The emotional response can be varied: happiness, sadness, nostalgia, peacefulness, energy, festivity. This challenge is all about thinking of music that has been an important part of your life, your “soundtrack.” What speaks to you in a special way?

I chose the song Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse. When my now husband and I started dating, that song was popular on the radio. And, because we worked at a radio station, my darling hubby (being in the production side of the biz), had access to songs before almost everyone else did.

One day, I came back to my cubicle and there lay a cassette tape (I know, ancient right?!) with a sticky note on it telling me to play it. It was a copy of a new song about to hit the radio: Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse. To this day, we both still stop and listen if we hear the song.

And doesn't that song title make for a great title on a layout?! Love it!

Hope you find time to play along with us over at All About Me. I really enjoyed my guest design team member time over there this month. And I plan to play along now that the time has ended. (Thanks, Melissa!!!)

Here is the song if you need a refresher or want to hear it.

pretty pink card

I made this card for my post today over at Scrapbook Circle's blog. I'd love it if you join me over there. I talk a little bit about the lettering on the card.

And, though not in the Scrapbook Circle kit, I am all over this pink ribbon I picked up at Michael's a few months ago. The pin I got from the January Studio Calico kit. Not sure who makes that one, but I am guessing Maya Road (since all the great pins seem to come from them).

The papers are from the Cupid line from Pink Paislee. Adorable aren't they? I just love how versatile they have been to work with.

I also used the sketch this week over at 2 Sketches 4 You. I never feel like I followed the sketch, but this time I think I did get pretty close.

Thanks for stopping by today! I hope to see you over at the Scrapbook Circle blog, and if you have the January kit, I hope you are sharing your creations with us on the forum and gallery!!

it's h{ippity} hop time!

Hello, and welcome to the H{ippity} Hop for {ippity} stamps. I have made another card using the Because of You stamp set from {ippity}. I just can't get enough of this set!

And thanks to Heidi's sketch challenge at Sketchy Thursdays, I got to get messy and grungy when I made this card. I used an old book page from a french novel and grunged it up with distressing ink.

Would you like to win this set?

Or perhaps the Life's Little Moments set?

Over at Sketchy Thursdays we are giving away one of these sets to a random winner. All you have to do it play along with this sketch proudly made by Sketchy Thursdays co-founder, Heidi!

Thanks for stopping by to see the {ippity} card I made for Sketchy Thursdays. I hope to see some of you playing along with us! This {ippity} Second Chance Challenge will run through 11:59 p.m. (EST) on 1/31.

Please post a
direct link to your creation in the comments on THIS LINKED post for your chance to win a fabulous {ippity} stamp set.

who's that girl blog hop and prizes!

Ok, so you girls want to have some fun and win prizes? Get to know the Who’s That Girl Design Team… We would LOVE to get to know YOU!

Start the hop at the WHO’S THAT GIRL CHALLENGE BLOG, then hop along to each team member’s blog to see their wonderful takes on our very first challenge!

The first challenge for 2010 is "One Word." But not just any word, we want to know the word that describes who you are as a person. For this challenge pick a word that tells who you are and what you are all about.

Here's what I did for the challenge! I feel like I cheated, but hey, I couldn't decide and have always wanted to try a doodle layout. If you can't tell, my "One Word" is LOVED, the only word in green and using a script font. See how I was thinking? (Or as the hubby puts it, "See what I did there?")

So, for those of you new to my blog... HI! A little bit about me: I am most known for starting and co-running the Sketchy Thursdays weekly sketch challenge blog. I am a DT member for Scrapbook Circle kit club as well as A Scrappy Design in addition to the time I spend with Who's That Girl. I work full-time as the print production coordinator for a national teen magazine. I've been married to my darling husband for more than five years and we have a 3-year-old son, Nate.

One lucky person who leaves a comment on all of our blogs in the DT blog hop will win this collection of goodies:

1.14 sketchy thursdays and some music

It's Thursday, so it's time for another Sketchy Thursdays page reveal. I also played along with the most recent Scrapping The Music challenge #117: Say Hey.

I just had to play along with this one because my darling hubby announced one day this summer that this song was "our" song. He would text or call me when it came on the radio. And once he even captured me against my will to dance with him while the song was on the radio in our bedroom. He's kind of a romantic when he wants to be.

And, another great thing about my hubby, he knows when it's time to give in. I had thought this wonderful picture of our family was off-limits for making a scrapbook page that would have to be posted to my blog. He doesn't always like to be shown in his uniform out in cyberspace.

He knew I was struggling to find a good summer picture of us for this challenge, and out of the blue he suggested this pic. He loves this picture of us as much as I do, so it was nice to finally be able to work with it. Yahoo!!

This page was also made with my very first Studio Calico kit. A little Christmas present I couldn't wait to play with!! And it is also my entry for 52 Weeks 52 Sketches (Use at least 3 circles). I just found this challenge site and love it already!

Here is the 1.14 sketch for Sketchy Thursdays. Hope to see you playing along over there!! Our prize this week is brought to you by Sweet Scrap Deal! Sweeeeeetttt!!
